Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Complete a total of 12 CEUs to maintain your certification and stay current with coaching best practices. CEUs must be earned between 7/1/2024 and 6/30/2026.

Background Check
NCSI Background Check
USA Triathlon Certified Coaches must maintain a current "Green Light (Clear)" background check at all times. Background checks are performed by the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI).

SafeSport Training
Annual SafeSport Training
SafeSport Training is required annually and is only valid for one year. Your SafeSport Training must be kept current at all times to maintain your coach certification and insurance coverage.

When is the recertification window?

The recertification window opens April 1, 2026 and closes June 30, 2026. We recommend completing your requirements early to avoid any last-minute issues.

Can I carry over CEUs from my previous recertification period?

No, CEUs cannot be carried over from before July 1, 2024. All 12 CEUs must be earned between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026.

How long does the approval process take?

The approval process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, though our education team works diligently to process applications as quickly as possible. Submitting early helps ensure timely approval.

What happens if my certification expires?

If your certification expires, you are no longer a USA Triathlon Certified Coach. This means you will lose access to coach insurance coverage and the benefits of USAT certification. Please complete your recertification before the deadline to maintain your status.

To renew your coaching certification, you must complete a minimum of 8 USAT-approved CEUs. These are paid courses exclusively available through our Triathlon Learning platform. The courses cover essential topics including coaching methodology, sport science, nutrition, injury prevention, and more.
