Chris Balser

Participate in the Biomechanics of Cycling in Triathlon with Chris Balser an internationally renowned bike fitter. Chris will be presenting on the following topics: • Identify/address functional constraints on the bike to establish a sustainable aerodynamic position. • Technique workshop to improve pedaling efficiency • Fit-considerations relative to morphology, experience, course topography and distance. This workshop is interactive and in-person.

Bio

Chris Balser has been fitting professionally since 1989, and currently provides services for more than 700 cyclists, including 300-400-triathletes annually, between two locations in Minneapolis, MN. He has two master’s degrees in Public Health (MPH) and Social Work (MSW. Additionally, Chris has trained at the leading fit-schools and holds certifications in Yoga(s) and Manual Therapies. His success is qualified by the result of >10,000 documented fittings, continuing research, and regular contact/participation with veteran fitters and leading bike fit researchers.

Bicycle fit Guru is an independent operation that allows Chris to stock saddles, components, and shoes from various manufacturers and sells bikes based on fit instead of brand loyalty. This model provides exposure to a broad range of products. Each studio is designed specifically for the unique needs of my clients, and I guarantee my work with a money-back satisfaction guarantee.

One of Chris’ greatest ABL accomplishments was programming the first custom-integrated 3D/sEMG protocols for bike fitting, and sEMG biofeedback protocols to reduce counterproductive pedaling. He uses the BTS Bioengineering system to write custom 3D/sEMG programs for research, diagnostics, and performance testing -- including protocols for bike fit, gait analysis, and functional movement screening. His services include Sm02 testing to determine optimal crank length, sports psychology, private yoga instruction, and deep-tissue therapies.

Chris has been fortunate to collaborate through research and development for companies including BTS Bioengineering, Moxy, Medicine of Cycling, Serotta, LeMond, Zipp, QBP, HED Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center, and Bike Fit. His current positions include the development and administration of Clinical Bike Fit and the International Bike Fitting Institute Scientific Research Sub Committee. These roles keep him current with medical and scientific data that pertains to cyclists and multisport athletes.
