Certified Coaches receive an invitation to engage with USA Triathlon at a higher level to help grow the sport. The USA Triathlon Coaching Education Department is always looking for qualified coaches interested in writing and presenting opportunities. If you have a particular skill set that you feel would be valuable to Coaching Education, please email a detailed overview of your experience to [email protected].
USA Triathlon requires coaches to be in compliance at all times to be considered in good standing as a USAT Certified Coach. These coach compliance requirements ensure all USA Triathlon activities are as safe as possible for all participants. Coaches are required to have the following items current at all times: SafeSport Training (annual renewal), "Green Light (Clear)" Background Check via the NCSI, CPR, AED, First Aid Certification, USAT Annual Membership. Allowing any of these requirements to lapse within your certification period will result in immediate revocation of your coaching certification and loss of all benefits, such as insurance coverage, until the above requirements are met.
We love receiving newsletter ideas and articles! Please email your idea or submission (approximately 1000 words, though anywhere from 500-1500 is acceptable) to [email protected] focused on a particular topic pertinent for coaches to apply to their coaching practices.
USA Triathlon Coaching Certification is valid for two (2) years. In order to maintain your USA Triathlon Coaching Certification, you must recertify at the end of that two-year time frame. Read more about recertification and the requirements here: https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Triathlon/USAT-for-Me/Coaching/Recertification
As a USAT Certified Coach you are automatically enrolled in the USAT Coaching Insurance Program. You will receive your insurance certificate via email from Insurance Office of America (IOA) by the last day of the month. To request a copy, please email Melissa Otterbein at [email protected].

CEU Questions
CEUs are courses designed to ensure USA Triathlon Certified Coaches keep their knowledge of industry trends, technology and triathlon regulations relevant. CEUs are crucial for professional coaches to stay up-to-date with the most relevant triathlon coaching education as well as ensure each coach is well-rounded. There are two types of CEUs that USAT recognizes: USAT CEUs (courses that USAT runs or is affiliated with) and Non-USAT CEUs (courses held by outside organizations). https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Triathlon/USAT-for-Me/Coaching/Education

After conducting an audit of our continuing education offerings, our team determined the newsletter exams did not meet the rigor and learning standards of our other continuing education options. Our newsletter exams have been discontinued.
USAT offers external organizations with quality education to provide USAT CEUs for the completion of their course. If you are a course director and would like your course to be approved for USAT CEUs, please complete the online application (https://www.triathlonlearning.com/courses/2021-usat-ceu-provider-application). Please note, for a course to be eligible for USAT CEUs the course must be available to all coaches. If you have any questions, please email Melissa Otterbein at [email protected].
Non-USAT CEUs are courses held by outside organizations. All information on Non-USAT CEUs can be found here: https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Triathlon/USAT-for-Me/Coaching/Education/Non-USAT-CEUs
